Eclipses are special times and provide us with events that challenge us. There are some variables that I would like you to understand.
1. The sign and degree of the Eclipse is very important and allows us to see the area of life that it will be affecting. The planet that rules the sign will indicate the kind of energy to be used.
2. If the Eclipse falls within 3 degrees of a transiting or natal planet, it will incorporate the energy of that planet into the meaning of the Eclipse. The degree of the Eclipse will become sensitive to transits from the Sun and Mars. Transits to these points will bring up issues that have to be addressed.
3. The most important aspect that you can delineate is a conjunction or an opposition. The New Moon Eclipse can bring in challenges and the beginning of new endeavors just as the Full Moon Eclipse can bring endings to certain challenges presented at the New Moon Eclipse.
4. If the New Moon Eclipse:
a. Is conjunct the natal or transiting Sun, it will bring in certain responsibilities that must be addressed that deal with your personal energy and life force.
b. Is conjunct natal or transiting Mercury, communications will be of utmost importance and indicate many conversations in the future and lots of thinking. Mental agility will be useful as will be strategy.
c. Is conjunct natal or transiting Venus, indicates difficulty with finances and well as facing relationship problems.
d. Is conjunct natal or transiting Mars, look for movement and travel. Cars fall under the auspices of Mars in a chart as do men and assertiveness.
e. Is conjunct natal or transiting Jupiter, expansion is the keyword. Travel and finances come in a close second and over optimism must not become a reality.
f. Is conjunct natal or transiting Saturn, the meaning is responsibility: New structures and new restrictions and the possibility of new work.
g. Is conjunct natal or transiting Uranus, the opportunity is the unexpected, the spontaneous event, or freedom. This is a time to be as flexible as possible.
h. Is conjunct natal or transiting Neptune, the message will not be clear, or the reality of life is hidden by rose colored glasses. This can also be artistic and reveling in the products of imagination.
i. Is conjunct natal or transiting Pluto, the indication is that transformation is about to occur. Not just plain old transformation but an intense rising from the ashes of the past.
5. If the New Moon Eclipse falls or makes an opposition to a natal or transiting planet, the New Moon Eclipse will present obstacles to be overcome.
6. The New Moon Eclipse will be in effect for 6 months but usually, when the New Moon Squares the Eclipse Moon, a turning point will be reached. This takes approximately 3 months.
You must use your natal chart in trying to delineate your personal New Moon Eclipse. Eclipses have been going on for years and years. There are cycles that rule them but, for our uses, this information is sufficient.
There are lessons and important trade offs that take place during an Eclipse. One of the many distinctions Astrologers have is the orb they use in any given aspect. Eclipses in my experience have been intensely active at 3 degrees. Others may opt for 5 degrees or more. It is a matter of personal technique as to which one will work better for you.
The next observation to make is what house the Eclipse occupies. The sign location and its quadruplicity and element are very significant. If in a Cardinal sign the action is to attack the problem head-on. (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) If the Eclipse is in a Fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) you are reluctant to make changes and try to adapt to the crisis. If in a Mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) you immediately try to pretend there is no crisis.
The element of the sign designs the fabric of the Eclipse. If in a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) the emphasis is a personal challenge. If in an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) this Eclipse will be a physical one dealing with things. If in an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) a crisis that involves the intellect. If in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) the crisis is emotional and involves feelings.
Now that you know what to expect from the sign and elements lets look at the house polarity of the Eclipse as that is also an excellent way to understand what dynamic is taking place.
If the Eclipse takes place in the First or Seventh House it speaks of the need for an (1st house) individual identity and the polarity suggests that to gain this identity you must also be willing to give recognition (7th house) to others. The exchange being I will accept you for whom you are if you will accept me in the same way.
If the Eclipse takes place in the Second or Eighth House it speaks of the need someone has for tangible possessions (2nd house ) and the desire to share in the possessions of others (8th house). The exchange being, I will give you something I can do for you if you will give me something in return just as valuable to you.
If the Eclipse takes place in the Third or Ninth House it speaks of the need to have freedom to exchange concepts, ideas (3rd house)in order to obtain greater knowledge and wisdom. The exchange becomes lets share our thoughts and ideas for in the end we will both be free.
If the Eclipse takes place in the Fourth or Tenth House it speaks of our personal security (4th house) and how to achieve personal power (10th house). The exchange is how much of your personal security will you give up to attain to achieve personal power.
If the Eclipse takes place in the Fifth or Eleventh House it speaks of the exchange of intangible commodities like love, vacations, children ( 5th house) and our own desires for romance and attainment of our goals (11th house). The exchange is Love me and I will love you.
If the Eclipse takes place in the Sixth or Twelfth House it speaks of service to others (6th house) and what we can expect in return (12th house). The exchange declares “Care for me and I will care for you.”
